Here we go again: Camino del Norte
Wednesday, June 22, 2011: I had my first real training walk this evening carrying my pack (although only with about 12 pounds) in nearly 100 degree weather & it was pretty much totally enjoyable! I have been thinking about doing another part of the Camino de Santiago since returning last September, and current plans are to walk a portion of the Camino del Norte (goes along the northern Coast of Spain beginning in Irun) hopefully beginning in late August. This time I will have a "compañero" from Spain which will make it an entirely different experience. In addition, we will be walking one of the less traveled routes, mostly along the ocean. My present plan (which is still open for changes) is to start in San Sebastián and walk to Santander (which should be about 12 to 14 days) but to give myself some extra days for either more walking or more rest days. I already have my prescriptions for both predinsone (in case of another episode of tendonitis) and pain meds & have been walking with "bastones" (walking sticks) so I feel much more prepared at this point in time than I was in June of 2010. Of course, blisters remain the most consistent concern. I hope to begin making some regular entries as I get closer to day of departure.
